Day 10 November 15 2012

Sorry i had to write this post and am copying to blog. Now that i have good internet service!

We woke up this morning to a beautiful cold morning at 6:00. Walked up on deck to check it all out. While I performed my morning first mate duties of wiping down the bimini top windows Steve pulled both the anchors, we have to put out one at bow and one at stern to keep boat from singing around. Which reminds me that my Tractor Supply muck boots and our Under Aromor have been a necessity on this trip. We cautiously made our way out of the river inlet out to the channel watching our depth closely. I had to guide the boat from the bow due to decreased visibility because of the fog. Steve and i need a radio headset so we can hear each other when we are at separate ends of the boat. You cannot hear anything  if you are in the cockpit. And he cant hear me yelling from the front unless he leans over the side of the cockpit. (if you cant hear me normally we have an issue anyway! HAHAHA) We finally made it safely out into the channel and headed to Stennis dam lock, the water there was covered in lily pads. After the dam we ran into several types of birds, black ducks, mallards and cranes. The most Beautiful is the Bald Eagle. They sit like guards on the tree limbs and posts watching you like they are making sure we keep moving. We saw 2 sitting on the side of the bank fishing in the shallows, one flew to a nearby tree limb and watched us turning his head to follow us as we motored down the waterway. After that we came to a huge crane unloading metal out of a barge. It looked like a huge dinosaur devouring food. Then came the houses on the water, I took a lot of pics for you house hunter fans. Take note of the home with the phone booth out front and the one with the Totem pole. The one with the phone booth reminded me of “The Hills Have Eyes” or some movie like that where you are in the middle of nowhere you finally escape make it to a phone booth and NOO the phone doesnt work!! These houses are in the bend of the waterway that curves to Miss then next curve your in AL then Miss then Al. It does that about 4-6 times.  I took a picture of a beautiful house in Alabama that was for sale with 4 acres. I have been captaining the boat for about an hour now and i noticed a sandbar volleyball court to the left side of the channel. Steve said he had seen several. We cane to MM 307.4 to a Marina back in a slew with channel markers to guide the way. We couldnt see it from the waterway so we followed markers in. It is an old marina and we didnt feel safe there so we waved to the guy on shore and we traveled on. We went to the a museum right outside the marina entrance. It is an old snagboat called the Montgomery that had been turned into a museum. We really liked it. There was also a mansion by that that had been built in the same fashion as other mansions in the area. It was a wildlife museum and a waterway museum and it showed all the waterway improvements  and additons to the waterways in Alabama. I loved the look of it and hopefully can get all the pictures on here. As we left the museum we noticed a huge barge heading into the dam lock (our timing couldn’t be more perfect lol) . Since we had to wait a few we started up the generator, had Corkys BBQ, small baked potato and Steve had microwave macaroni! Lip smackin good!! By the time we finished lunch we shut off generator started up the thingamajig and headed to the lock. We sailed for a few hours after the lock and couldnt find a good anchorage that looked safe so we anchored out to the port side of the waterway bank. It was a good anchorage but the beaver living there got piffed he smacked his tail on the water for a few hours and swam up and down the side of the boat. We figured he would chew through our anchor line in back for spite, hahaha. We thought he might be calling in the troops BOY a beaver attack, that wouldnt be good. :-)) We sat on the boat for a few and heard a boat coming in the distance. As it came closer you could see someone shining a light from side to side, then all of a sudden we hear and excited yell, “HEY thats a sailboat! You dont see that everyday!” Obviously sailboats arent common we are in bass boat country. We went in after laughing for a while and watched part of a movie and fella sleep.
