DAY 14 NOVEMBER 21 2021

OK so the BIG MOOSE and the CARETTA started our journey from Dempolis and KIngfisher marina toward Mobile Alabama. Going into the lock we had two more sailboats and a trawler with us. The sailboats did not have a mast on them due to the fact they had the mast removed to take them upriver and will have them remasted in Mobile Alabama at Dog River or Turner Marine. There are two more locks after Demopolis and then we anchor out until we hit Mobile. It was a pretty day with some clouds overhead but no rain today. Inside the lock there were some leaves and sticks going down with us like they were trying to escape from one side to the other! So we exited the lock and admired the beautiful water flowing over the dam as we looked to our right on the way out. There were some really neat houses on the way down the Coffeeville Lake area. I especially enjoyed seeing the remnants of the bridge that in 1979 a barge was drug under the unlifted side of the bridge due to lines not being untied from the barge part, and it went under sideways submerged and then came back up on the other side with the crew shaken but okay. I will print the picture and article below. After seeing this cool part of history we spent the rest of the day passing barges and looking for an anchorage that would be safe and comfortable. The foliage and the cool cypress tree roots that looked like bony fingers reaching into the river to soak it up. Passed several sandy beaches that i am sure when it is warmer there are some boats and folks headed that way. We found an anchorage on the side of the river next to a huge uprooted tree with the roots sticking out of the water creating a dragons head. I am posting a pic of that dragon! We decided to use both of our bow anchors as stern anchors tie off to each other with our boats in opposite directions and it worked like a charm. It was so nice we sat on the boats outside and just enjoyed the solitude and the spaghetti LOL. Another beautiful day in the books for Caretta and the BIg Moose. Stay tuned folks, we are headed for adventure beaches and sunshine!
