Day 144 March 30 2013 Saturday
Day before Easter. We are going to go to the island today to finish our tour with the golf cart. We took Debbieย with us and toured Russel island again with her. Watched some guys jumping off a bridge into the water. It looks like you will hit the water from the bridge but they never did. The water is so clear it looks like the bottom is right under you. ๐ We went and ordered 6 gallons of drinking water from the person on the island who does reverse osmosis so you can have pure drinking water 6 gallons for 7 dollars. Boy do we need drinking water, we went to the grocery after we picked it up at 11 and bought groceries for theย boat. We took our loot back and Steve stored it away while i stayed on the dock. The boat was too crowded for all of us so I stayed on shore. Steve and I went to the showers and had a nice hot shower. The walls are so thin i heard Steve calling my name on the other side asking if i had hot water, obviously he did not. After we got clean we headed back to the boat for a relaxing night. The showers mean a huge thing to me because it takes so much water to rinse myย hair. The boat water is only 50 gallons and i probably use 5 just to clean my hair. Movie and sleep, everyone have a great night.
Day 142 March 28 2013 Thursday
Not much going on today. Just another lazy day on the boat. ๐
Day 145 March 31 2013 “Easter Sunday”
Happy Easter everyone!! I did not see the Easter Bunny today i guess his boat got delayed by the weather! It was a beautiful Sunday and Steve and I decided to check out the beach here and try to find some sand dollars. We saw so many pieces of sand dollars and small shells. Steve was attacked by a crab in the water, gotta watch out for the attack crabs :-)) I had a crab running down the beach in front of me and Steve had a big one in a standoff Claws Up! We attempted to lay out at the beach and wind started to immediately cover us up with a thin blanket of sand, time to move. Steve found a protected cove without the automatic sand blankets from the wind. It was so pleasant with min wind and lots of sun. Steve explored the south beach and i just layed out in the sun. aaahhhh nice. We walked back down the beach took a walkway between the houses and saw what looked like a bird sanctuary in someone’s back yard. Lots of ducks and doves. One bird looked like our wood duck in the states. Well past the birds and back to the docks where we sat and checked internet. One of the corners of the street has an unlocked internet signal. No luck tonight no signal for checking. We sat there for a few minutes it was so peaceful and pretty.ย And then we went back to the boat grabbed water jugs ours and David’s and filled them for our trip tomorrow, took our garbage too.ย Well we got all prepared for our journey to Abacos tomorrow. Yeah!
Day 141 March 26 2013 Wednesday
We left the marina this AM to go back to our anchorage since wifi was minimal and we didn’t get electricity. We got the laundry finished that was a biggie. I love the anchorage because you do’nt have so many people that can see in the windows of your boat. Today we did not do much of anything, sometimes you just hang around, that is island time lol, I think we will rent a golf cart tomorrow to get groceries and supplies. Hope everyone had a great day we did just doing nothing!
Day 140 March 25 2013 Tuesday
Good morning everyone!
Another beautiful day in the islands. Steve and I went to explore today again and decided to anchor in the marina for one night to do laundry and get the internet. They charge you for electricity, and internet as well. We had to go to marina to do laundry because the only one on the island for public use belongs to marina and you cant use it unless you are there paying for dockage. The price was not bad for laundry tokens 3 dollars apiece. Compared to 4 and 5. They have one washer and one dryer and you can only get the internet if you are sitting at laundromat door or in marina office. We got all the laundry done it took about 4 hours and then we went to boat to cook. I had one load left so i had to go back to laundry to finish. This town is a small neat town with friendly people. We love the environment here. We will await a good weather window now to travel to Abaco. Steve took out the dinghy and explored the little island and slew beside us today. He found a blue crab, some barracuda and a few fish.ย Good day today and great meal this evening with friends and fudge!! ๐ Have a great day everyone!
** The boat belongs to Lenny Kravitz the beaches are all Spanish Wells. I hope you like the pictures! Lenny sings one of my favorite songs, “I Want to Fly Away” I think lol
Day 139 March 24 2013 Monday
Good morning! Sailing to Spanish Wells again today. the weather is beautiful and sunny the water is calm with winds at around 7-10 knots. Steve and I put the spinnaker out today due to decreased winds and we are going downwind. After we figured it out the sail was working wonderful it took the wind and increased our speed to 6-7 knots whoo hoo! It looks pretty too. We flew it as long as we could until winds picked up and we had to go back to headsail and motor. Motor because the wind was still not strong enough to make good time. We took turns steering and had a great time. I had to go out to the bough to fix a piece on the spinnaker and was blown around, glad i was holding on!! There were 2 dolphins hanging with us so i felt good! Dolphins are a good sign I hear. We had to leave the shallow banks and go into the ocean to make it to Spanish Wells for our anchorage. We enjoyed the sail with the winds the beautiful weather and the boat just sailing along. We made it to an anchorage outside the island after dark and anchored out. We are getting good at anchoring, whew! that is a good thing. We fell asleep under the starry sky and peaceful waves lulling us to sleep. Goodnight everyone!
Day 138 March 23 2013 Saturday
O boy get ready for another adventure into Nassau! Up early breakfast bar and a diet coke or milk if your Steve. Off to the dinghy and onto the banks. We picked up Debbie and headed for the internet sights again. I think I’m addicted to the internet, i just cant wait to check my email and facebook. look up embroidery library and other things i miss without it. We headed to McDonalds today for the free internet at Micky D’s you don’ have to have a code to use it. One problem with that is they do not provide any outlets at all. So when you are out of power you have toย leave. lol Smart people, plus man it was so crowded for the 2 hours we were there. After that we headed down to the straw market so i could buy another gift for the kids. The market is so packed but i love it. All kinds of everything, and a lot of stuff made in Bahamas. They have a lot of straw purses and i saw one where the lady in the church was wearing, that was made of coconut skin or palm. I looked and looked and cant find one like it. The rest of the stuff is made in some other country. I like to buy the hand made stuff. The rest of the day we walked got some groceries and headed back to the boat. Steve took me to eat that night and we had fun. Good night everyone from Nassau. ๐
Day 137 March 22 2013 Friday
Well we went “huntin” some internet today. It has become a sport with us looking for a connection to the world. Dunkin donuts has internet and i don’t mind buying something to eat there. LOL They give you two codes to get one hour of internet. And it was so crowded it was SLOW. We got in some internet time. Before we went to DD we had gone to the phone store here in Nassau that sells cheap phones, phone cards, and internet cards to buy. The internet card takes a special adapter for 85 dollars and then the price of the card. The cheap phones were all sold out and all they had were 89 dollar phones and that doesn’t include any phone time. The price is still pretty good for being out of the country and calling home. My phone charges 2 dollars per minute and 50 cents per each text i send and 5 cents for each text received. So not many people here from me phone wise. ๐ The streets are packed today with all the cruise ships here. We hit several t-shirt shops but i just couldn’t find one i really liked. Plus t-shirts that are good quality are expensive. We are still enjoying our trip very well, we have seen so much and have had a great time. Tonight Steve and I saw a huge party over on the beach by Atlantis. We had seen them putting up struct res the day before when we walked over to the beach from Atlantis(where i was attacked by 3 viscious fire ants that left their mark on my right foot) OUCH. So we could here the announcer at the party (we thought at first it was a wedding) announcing the two names of the companies throwing the shindig. They happened to be two huge finance credit card companies that had received govt aid. HHHMMMMMM Company party Nassau,Bahamas disco lights, catered, HUGE crowd. Boy I say they are really hurting for money. Maybe the government should help them out again they could have the next company party somewhere nicer. LOLOLOLOLย We are in trouble America. You got to hand it to them we saw one of the biggest fireworks shows, where the fireworks were shot off of a rented ship out in the harbor not 50 feet from Steve and I. We loved it! Nassau does have some nice sights on Paradise Island. I hope everyone had a great day, Denise and Steve signing off. ๐
Day 136 March 21 2013 Thursday
I went to the Starbucks again today to work on the blog a little eat a danish and read Facebook and write emails. It has been fun going back and forth to the little plaza her where it is safe. I drive the dinghy to the Texaco dock past the huge mail boat, massive fishing ships, supply ships to the other islands, and the huge private yachts to the dinghy dock. When i go in front of the supply ship or mail ship i feel like a flea compared to the size of those ships. Just one of their anchors would sink our boat if it hit it. Well back at the dinghy dock i tie up lock the boat cable and head off to the plaza. The starbucks is always crowded but that is not a problem there are plenty of seats. I buy something to drink sit down pull out the computer and start surfing, YEAH! You don’t know what you have till its gone. So true, boy do i feel spoiled. I am happy just to be here writing to you guys about this adventure. I am sure it will get more exciting the more we are on the water. I met a guy today who has a dinghy with a mast on it. Steve and I saw him at Allen’s Cays in it holding up two huge lobsters he had caught. And it was funny seeing him here in Nassau. Heย was from Canada and wanted to know how we came to Nassau. Not many people have heard of the Tn Tom Waterway, so i told him that is how we came to the gulf and then on to Bahamas. We did not talk long because we could hardly understand on another. LOL ๐ I went back to the boat and cooked, watched a movie. Goodnight everyone.
