WOW i am excited to see so many people reading our blog! Last night we had an incredible storm although we stayed dry and cozy inside the boat. The wind was howling relentlessly and the rain pounded the hull of the boat with the sail lines clanging against the mast, it was wonderful. We slept in today and got up late at about 8:30. Checked the boat riggings and equipment to assure they were all properly fastened down. Took a shower which was only like 15 foot from boat. The shower floor was boards like a boat and very clean and plenty of hot water. I probably looked like a red water buoy by the time i came out :-0 Clean and dry (i had to dry off with a shirt due to the fact i left my towel in the boat)( didnt want to run out on dock with no clothes on didnt want to send anyone into shock lmao), we went to get key for courtesy car and headed into Savannah TN to get breakfast but by the time we got there it was lunch time and we ate at a wonderful BBQ place called the Hickory Pit. (need to go there if your ever in Savannah TN). They serve plenty of food and your togo cup is like 1/2 gallon. Boy am i on a tea high! Poor Steve has to listen to me talk for hours now. God love him. After that we went to Savannah Health Care to see my old coworkers from when i was doing traveling physical therapy. It was great they are such good people, and Steve assisted with stuck WC brake while we were there. The facility is the cleanest i have ever seen and it smells great. These people know how to take care of their elderly and they respect them too! We left the facility and traveled back to boat by way of Fred’s to pick up soup in a cup for our food supply. The marina is down a beautiful winding road with very nice houses on it .Arriving back at the Marina we put supplies away (finding room for them in fridge is getting tight) and waited for attendant to get back and turn diesel on so we could fill up and shove off. As i speak we are headed down the Tom Bigbee( they call it the Ditch, which fits. It is no higher than 9-12 foot deep and is the longest man made waterway in the world. My computer is dying will try to finsh this on my phone.
I sent a link to this to my family so they can follow Unwinder’s new adventures. We’re so glad you’re enjoying it. It will take good care of you.
Steve –
The people at Midway marina – still ahead of you – are very friendly as is T. Martin, the dockmaster at Columbus, MS. Very good places to stop and get hot showers, too. Columbus has a courtesy car and Huck’s restaurant in town is worth a visit.
Be sure to top off your fuel at Bobby’s Fishcamp. Also, if you’re there from Thursday to Sunday, the best catfish around. It’s just before the last lock on the Tenn-Tom and the last fuel to the coast.
When we took it down last year, topping off there gave us plenty of fuel to make it to Pensacola. Also, once past busy Mobile Harbor, sailing down Mobile Bay will be fun. It gets shallow out of the channel so keep a close watch on the GPS/depth sounder.
Thank you so much we appreciate all the wonderful advice so keep it coming! I hope you and your wife are enjoying your boat as much as we are enjoying your old boat :-))
Steve-
I got thinking about your traveling in the river fog and talking about going offshore: do you have a radar reflector to hang at the top of your mast so other boats will see you? If not, your fiberglass hull and low profile will make it hard to see you. Just something to think about.
