I am just getting around to writing the blog tonight We traveled 52 miles today enjoying the beautiful scenery and each others company. The weather was cold this morning but warmed up to around the 60s today with beautiful clear and cold weather. (i couldnt finish blog last night we lost our connectivity.) so i will start again. We had to wait on gas pumps to open up at 8, so we are off to another late start.Like it matters 🙂 The sunrise is gorgeous coming thru the cypress trees here. We had cereal for breakfast and i cleaned up boat while waiting, Steve was out exploring the place finding all the other sailboats and tugboats in the harbor. We may come home in a tugboat! :-0 After taking off back toward the channel we ran into a patch of milfoil and it wrapped around our prop, after several reverse maneuvers we got it off and boat ran up to speed again. The scenery is so pretty (i will attempt to post pictures today since i have good service today). We came to the first dam and i took my position on deck lowering and positioning the fenders and untying line to throw around can. Steve holds boat position so i can smoothly get us secured. I love the locks so far.Its fun to throw that line and tie us off. If we have to wait we just fish. We came through 4 locks today and under several bridges. We traveled for a while and came to a river inlet we read about in our Tin Tom book and started up in it. The book stated that it was 10 foot deep throughout and we instantly hit something with our keel that took us to 0 depth but quickly went back to 7 feet. We travelled app 600 feet into this inlet with depths ranging from 9 – 1 foot. We tried to get next to an island or just close to it and our boat decided that it was not traveling any further!! Well we gave rocking the boat a whole new meaning! Steve rocked the back while I rocked the front and she backed up off whatever it was she was hung onto! We looked around and realized they could have filmed Deliverance right where we were at, spooky. All you could here was the night birds and night critters sounds in the trees and walking along the banks! I then realize I am in Mississippi in an isolated inlet whew hoo! I loved it! We cooked ribs and fried some Yukon gold potatoes in a small cast iron skillet with onions. Lip smacking great! Our grill and stove are super handy. We watched a movie our great friends Kim and Jerry gave us and fell asleep listening to the soothing sounds of the night birds, critters and the water sloshing against he boat and the gentile rocking of the boat. I will post pictures later my computer with pics on it battery died. And I don’t keep pics on my iPad.
CAPTAINS LOG Anchorage at 343.7, trust your instincts with the inlet to your starboard side depths vary, we found thin water and ran aground. Water depth is good in middle of channel for app 600 ft. We stopped here. You could go further to river but we didn’t want to chance it. We logged 55 miles today. Captain Steve “out”
